About me
I’m a PhD student in Linguistics at the Department of Language and Linguistic Science, University of York supervised by Eleanor Chodroff.
My research interests include: phonetics and phonology, tone and intonation, tone and music, Chinese languages and dialects, dialect-Mandarin mixed languages (interlanguages), traditional Chinese linguistics, Chinese writing systems and grammatology. My current interest is in the language contact in Guangxi, China.
My PhD project focuses on the pitch systems of Nanning Mandarin, an intermediate variant of local dialect(s) and Standard Mandarin spoken in Nanning, Guangxi. I study its tonal and intonational representations with respect of the potential influence by Nanning Cantonese and Standard Mandarin, as well as the interaction between the two pitch systems, with the attempt to fit in the broader theoretical frameworks of Chinese tone-intonation relationship.
How I pronounce my name: [xou35 ɕin55 tsɿ21] in Mandarin; [hɐu21 hɐm55 tʃi35] in Cantonese.

- I love music. I play the piano, sing a lot, collect CDs, and (re)arrange sheets for the music/songs I like (though only few were uploaded to MuseScore). I’ve been covering songs with my best friend as a band FlatterMe (check videos on bilibili / youtube).
- I love swimming and hiphop dancing, and have growing interests in stargazing.
